Volunteer of the Year

John Rust 

The day that John joined the G. Cecil Pruett Community Center
Family YMCA is the day he volunteered to organize a 5k race.
“John took on a key leadership role in planning every aspect of
the race,” says John Hicks, branch executive director. “John is
dedicated, ambitious, supportive, and puts his best foot forward
in everything he does.”

The first annual Fall Classic 5k Race & One Mile Walk went off
without a hitch in October 2007. The goal was to get 250 runners,
but the event drew 300 participants including runners and walkers.
More than $5,000 was raised, and all proceeds went towards the
Partner With Youth annual campaign.

“I think the YMCA is a focal part of what’s going on in Canton,”
says John. “It’s really fun to be part of the organization in terms
of volunteering for this race.”

John also is involved with the Senior Olympics and owns an
executive search company, Rust & Associates, Inc. He and his wife,
Linda, live in Canton. The couple has two adult children.
